Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has agreed to testify for the FBI investigating his assassination attempt this month.

In a statement on Fox News, Trump responded to a question about his questioning by saying that the FBI would be "coming on Thursday".

Victim testimony is a routine part of criminal investigations but is voluntary.

"CONSISTENT WITH OTHER VICTIM INTERROGATIONS"

A senior FBI official said, "The former president's interview will be consistent with all the other victim interviews we do. The FBI, like other witnesses to the crime, wants to get his perspective on what he observed."

FBI investigators continue to work to uncover the motive of the 20-year-old assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Authorities said the assailant had researched "how far Oswald was from Kennedy" before the shooting.

RESEARCHED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS

It was also revealed that the young attacker had made searches related to "power plants, mass shootings, information on improvised explosive devices and the assassination attempt on the Prime Minister of Slovakia earlier this year."

"Her previous social circle appears to have been limited to her immediate family, and we believe she had very few friends and acquaintances throughout her life," said an FBI official involved in the investigation.

BOUGHT EXPLOSIVES WITH FAKE ACCOUNTS

In the first half of 2024, Crooks was also found to have made "purchases of six chemicals used to create the explosive devices seized from his vehicle and home". He used pseudonyms for these purchases.

Investigators also revealed that he used foreign-based encrypted email accounts to purchase firearm parts, chemicals and other explosive components.
