Two species of cicada, belonging to the "group 13, which lives underground for 19 years" and the "group 13, which lives underground for 17 years", surfaced at the same time. Thus, millions of "periodic cicadas" invaded the region.

This natural phenomenon, which last occurred in 1803, will be repeated 221 years later, in 2245.

THEY CAN LIVE FOR 4-6 WEEKS

These insects live underground for 13 or 17 years, depending on the species, sucking the sap from tree roots.

When the soil temperature reaches 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, the cicadas come to the surface in swarms to mate in spring.

The "periodic cicadas", whose lifespan on Earth is 4 to 6 weeks, die after laying their eggs on trees.

The larvae that hatch from the eggs fall to the ground and life begins for them underground for a period of 13 to 17 years, depending on the group they belong to.

"Periodical cicadas", although they do not harm humans, according to some sources, can make sounds up to 90 or 100 decibels. The sound of billions of insects can affect the quality of life of residents.
