A supermarket chain, Hagkaup, says there is a strong link between demand and the trend, with cucumber purchases doubling.

Officials say Iceland's farmers are unable to meet growing consumer demand and hope supplies will return to normal “in a week or less”.

This viral trend originated in Canada. Here TikToker Logan Moffitt, nicknamed “the cucumber man”, shares new recipes using this variety.

The creator has more than 5.5 million followers and posts cucumber recipes almost every day.
