Madonna's birthday party in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Naples, has sparked criticism.

The singer, who will celebrate her 66th birthday on August 16, has reportedly rented the 2,200-year-old theater.

According to The Times Of London, the news that an American event company had booked the historic site for 30,000 euros sparked outrage among Italians. The public, who thought that the ruins could not be valued financially and could be damaged, were left unanswered by state officials.

Although the event has not been officially confirmed, the mayor of Pompeii reportedly said, "We are ready to host the singer."

The birthday party is expected to be attended by about 500 guests, including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who are currently vacationing in the region. According to local media reports, Italian Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano will also attend the party.
