During a hearing at the Sag Harbor Village Hall of Justice in Long Island, New York, the Grammy-winning singer pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of “driving under the influence of alcohol,” a misdemeanor traffic violation, as part of a plea agreement with the court.

Judge Carl Irace sentenced Timberlake to a $500 fine, 25 hours of community service at a nonprofit organization of his choice, and a public safety announcement about the dangers of drunk driving.

The famous singer told reporters after the hearing, “It was a mistake I made, but I hope that everyone who is watching and listening to me right now can learn from this mistake. I have definitely learned my lesson.”

Timberlake was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence in June after he failed to obey a stop sign and stay in his lane while driving in Sag Harbor, a town on Long Island, New York.

Sag Harbor police stated that the 43-year-old singer refused the breathalyzer test several times, saying, “No, I'm not going to take a chemical test.”
