UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak warned that artificial intelligence could facilitate the creation of chemical and biological weapons.

In the worst case scenario, society could lose all control over AI, which could prevent it from being shut down, Sunak said.

£1 BILLION INVESTMENT IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Speaking about artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, Sunak announced that nearly £1 billion has been invested in a supercomputer that is thousands of times faster than a normal computer.

WORLD'S FIRST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SECURITY INSTITUTE TO BE ESTABLISHED

Rishi Sunak also announced that he will establish the world's first AI safety institute in the UK.

"We will build on the world's knowledge of AI safety and carefully scrutinize, evaluate and test new types of AI, so we understand what each new model is capable of, and explore the full range of risks, from social harms such as bias and misinformation to the most extreme risks," said Sunak.

"MAKING CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS COULD BECOME EASIER"

Stating that it will facilitate the production of chemical or biological weapons, Sunak said, "Artificial intelligence can facilitate the production of chemical or biological weapons. Terrorist groups can use AI to spread fear and create mayhem on a larger scale.

Criminals can use AI for cyber-attacks, disinformation, fraud and even sexual abuse of children.

And in the most unlikely but extreme cases, there is even a risk that humanity could lose control over AI altogether through what is sometimes called 'superintelligence'."

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WILL HOST SECURITY SUMMIT

The UK will host a two-day AI security summit next week at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, with China expected to attend.
