The EU may temporarily ban three social media platforms, including X, under the Digital Services Act.

EU industry chief Thierry Breton has launched an investigation into three tech platforms, including Elon Musk-owned X, formerly Twitter, over content moderation decisions, Reuters reports.

Tech giants have faced investigations in recent weeks as harmful content and disinformation has increased in the wake of the Israeli-Palestinian war.

Under the EU's far-reaching Digital Services Act, very large tech platforms and search engines must do more to tackle illegal content and risks to public safety and protect their services against manipulative techniques.

MAY BE TEMPORARILY BANNED

"If things don't go well, the judge can temporarily ban them," Breton said.

Speaking during a radio interview with France Inter, Breton did not specify the other two platforms under investigation.
