The Ministry of Transport plans to roll out V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology to improve traffic safety and prevent accidents. The national road safety plan announced by the Ministry of Transport aims to reduce accidents by enabling vehicles to communicate with each other and the surrounding infrastructure.

WHAT IS V2X TECHNOLOGY

V2X technology enables vehicles to communicate with pedestrians, cyclists, other vehicles and roadside infrastructure. This system contributes to safe driving and helps prevent accidents, especially in dangerous situations such as dense fog and blind spots.

SAFETY BENEFITS AND GOALS

The Department of Transportation says that the widespread adoption of V2X technology could prevent hundreds of thousands of traffic accidents and lessen the impact of collisions. By 2028, 20% of the National Highway System and 25% of intersections in major cities are planned to use this technology. In the long term, the goal is to fully implement the system by 2036.

CYBER SECURITY AND COST CONCERNS

There are some concerns about cybersecurity risks and costs in the rollout of V2X technology. Vehicle components and applications to accommodate the technology will need to be produced by automotive suppliers and developers.

AUTHORITIES' VIEWS

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the technology has the potential to save lives, while National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said the plan could prevent hundreds of thousands of accidents. Although V2X technology is not new, this plan, which was on the agenda during the Obama administration, was halted during the Trump administration.

The US aims to create a safer driving experience by increasing safety in traffic with V2X technology.
