Bayer continues to lose lawsuits in the US brought by those claiming that the glyphosate-containing pesticide Roundup is a key cancer-causing agent.

A Missouri court jury on Friday ordered the German company to pay $1.56 billion to four plaintiffs who alleged that Bayer's Roundup weed killer caused harm, including cancer.

Bayer lost its fourth lawsuit in the US over the glyphosate-containing pesticide Roundup.

The jury also found Bayer liable for failing to warn plaintiffs of the potential dangers of using Roundup.

The verdict is expected to increase investor pressure on Bayer to change its legal strategy.

On the other hand, Bayer also announced today that it canceled the clinical trial of its Asundexian drug.

Bayer's shares fell nearly 20 percent in the stock market today.

In 2018, Bayer was sentenced to pay billions of dollars in fines and damages in lawsuits filed by those who claimed that the glyphosate-containing pesticide Roundup, developed by this company after its acquisition of the US agricultural company Monsanto for $ 63 billion, was an important factor triggering cancer formation.

While Bayer denied the allegations against glyphosate, in 2015 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as a carcinogen.

Bayer announced in 2020 that it had settled lawsuits filed against it in the US and would pay $10.9 billion to plaintiffs. Despite the settlement, the company faces about 50 thousand lawsuits related to Roundup.
