According to the New York Post, a young woman named Cruz Pinto was walking in the center of Maceio, Brazil, when she was stopped by an elderly woman who asked Pinto if she could tell her fortune.

Pinto accepted the offer and the woman told her that she only had 'a few days to live'. The fortune teller then gave Pinto a wrapped chocolate bar.

Bianca Cristina, Pinto's cousin, said: "He said he didn't think there was any danger because the chocolate was wrapped. He was hungry so he decided to eat it."

HE DIED 1 DAY AFTER EATING THE CHOCOLATE

A few hours after eating the chocolate, she began to feel very ill and developed symptoms such as severe stomach pains, visual disturbances and vomiting.

However, Pinto also suffered from ulcers and gastritis, so neither she nor her family thought much about it until it was too late.

Pinto died on August 4, a day after eating the chocolate.

"Although these substances are regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, they are quite common in poisoning cases in Brazil due to their easy access," said Thalmanny Goulart, head of the chemistry and toxicology laboratory that analyzed samples from Pinto's body during the autopsy, according to the Mirror.
