Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck reportedly spent around 24 hours in the transfer portal before announcing his commitment to play for the Miami Hurricanes in 2025. Beck, who is currently recovering from elbow surgery, initially declared his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he opted not to secure representation and after 12 days, made the decision to continue playing college football for another season. He formally entered the transfer portal on Thursday with a do-not-contact tag.
Reports swiftly emerged indicating that Miami was a frontrunner to secure Beck’s services. Beck is set to follow in the footsteps of Cam Ward, who chose to withdraw from last year’s draft after not being projected as a first-round pick. Ward then committed to Miami, where he had an impressive season throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns. He is now being touted as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, Beck sustained a season-ending injury during the Bulldogs’ victory over Texas in last month’s SEC Championship game. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in Georgia’s subsequent loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Beck, a two-year starter, amassed 7,912 passing yards with 58 touchdowns and 20 interceptions during his time with the Bulldogs. Having spent five seasons in Athens, he retains one year of eligibility.
The 22-year-old underwent surgery on his right elbow on December 23 and is projected to resume throwing activities in March. He is anticipated to be fully cleared for fall camp come August. Prior to his decision, Field Level Media ranked Beck as the sixth-best quarterback prospect in the 2025 draft class. Recognized as one of the prominent figures in the ongoing transfer portal proceedings, Beck has an NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) valuation of $4.2 million by On3.com.
During his high school years at Mandarin High School in Florida, Beck earned the title of Mr. Football in the state in 2018. His leadership guided Mandarin to clinch the Class 8A state championship.
