The star of the golden age of French cinema has died at the age of 88, Alain Delon's children told AFP.

His three children told AFP in a statement that their father died after a battle with illness. 

“Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony and his dog Loubo are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father. He passed away peacefully at his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and family,” the statement read, adding that the family had requested privacy.

The actor's health has deteriorated in recent years after suffering a stroke in 2019. According to French media, Delon has another undisclosed serious illness.

HIS CHILDREN'S INHERITANCE DISPUTE

The inheritance dispute between the three children of Alain Delon, whose health deteriorated, was on the agenda. 

His sons Anthony and Alain-Fabien claim that their sister Anouchka manipulated their father and hid his health condition. Anouchka, on the other hand, says that her siblings endangered their father's life and prevented them from moving to Switzerland.

The actor's children are waging a legal battle against each other in which insults, accusations and secret recordings have been published in the press. 

Delon's last public appearance as an actor was at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. The actor was awarded the Honorary Golden Palme d'Or.

Born on November 8, 1935, Alain Fabien Maurice Marcel Delon is known as one of Europe's most important actors.

He had a difficult childhood as his parents separated when he was still a child.

While he was expected to attend the Istanbul Film Festival in 2006, he disappointed those who were waiting for him by announcing on the last day that he would not be able to attend. Delon also canceled a theater play at the same time as his heart problem.

The actor, who has a large collection of paintings and sculptures, lives with his animals on his large estate in the village of Douchy.
