Carter’s family confirmed his passing on Sunday after a period of hospice care. Plans are underway for a state funeral, which will commence in Plains, Georgia, Carter’s hometown. Following the ceremonies in Plains, Carter’s body will be transported to Washington to lie in state before returning to Plains for burial beside his late wife, Rosalynn.
