The Sweden-based Nordic Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced that it has been recognised as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist".

The organisation, which has representatives in Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland and has been banned since 2020, is known as "the largest neo-Nazi group in Sweden".

In the statement stating that the US is concerned about the threat of ethnically motivated violence, it was reported that three members of the organisation were included in this list.

In the statement, the US made this decision after consultation with its European partners and made its determinations due to racism, anti-immigrant hostility, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBTIQ+ violence.

The US State Department stated that members of the organisation have carried out violent attacks against political opponents, protesters and journalists, adding that the NRM has organised violent trainings such as "knife fights".

The decision means that US-based assets belonging to the organisation or its leaders will be frozen and they will be banned from using the US financial system.
