A person injured by a shark on the island of Maui in the US state of Hawaii has died.
According to a statement by the Maui Police Department, a surfer died in hospital after being injured by a shark on the north coast of the island.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and the body will undergo an autopsy.
Although the identity of the deceased and details of the incident have not yet been released, authorities said the surfer was from the Haiku community in the north of the island.
