“This is not only an admission of the false statements I made to others, but more importantly, it is an admission of the lies I have told myself over the years,” Santos said, pleading guilty in the fraud and identity theft case against him. Santos' sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 2025.

Republican George Santos, who was elected as a member of Congress from New York in the November 8, 2022 midterm elections, later came to the agenda with many accusations such as making false statements, fraud and money laundering related to his election.
In the 23-article indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office in New York, Santos described the accusations against him as a “witch hunt” and announced that he would not resign from his post.
