The UK-based non-governmental organization IWF announced that the sharing of images of child sexual abuse and torture online has increased by 1800 percent in the last decade.
In a statement, IWF called on companies, politicians and parents to ensure that privacy measures are in place to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material online.
End-to-end encryption can protect children
"It is possible to protect children and privacy with end-to-end encrypted features. We urge companies to ensure that if they already use, or are about to use, end-to-end encryption in their messaging services, they also put safeguards in place. With this measure, images of child abuse will not be shared or allowed to be traded."
