Austin Butler, step aside because there is a fresh young talent eager to portray Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated “American Psycho.” An individual on X (formerly Twitter) recently shared on April 30 that they believe they have discovered Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “breakout role,” in response to news that Guadagnino’s next project will be “American Psycho.” Schwarzenegger himself then chimed in, expressing his enthusiasm by stating, “I’d love nothing more.”This is not the first occasion where the “White Lotus” actor has shown interest in taking on the role of the murderous Wall Street banker. In 2024, Schwarzenegger responded to a post from Variety about Guadagnino’s involvement in the new “American Psycho” film by sharing, “My dream.”Variety previously reported in late 2024 that talks were underway for Butler to star as Patrick Bateman in Guadagnino’s adaptation. However, there have been no further updates on Butler’s participation, leaving the possibility open for another actor to take on the role. While Jacob Elordi was also rumored to be considered for the part, those plans seemingly fell through.Guadagnino’s version of “American Psycho” was officially announced in October 2024. The script will be penned by Scott Z. Burns, and the film is said to offer a fresh take on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel rather than a direct remake of the original cult classic directed by Mary Harron.
