Eastern US Braces for Storms!

Welcome to the Daily Weather Update from FOX Weather on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Stay informed about today’s weather and catch the latest national, regional, and local updates on the FOX Weather Update podcast. A weather system that drenched parts of Texas and Louisiana will now move eastward, leading to prolonged severe weather and flash flood risks through early next week.

The FOX Forecast Center predicts an elevated thunderstorm threat across the South and mid-Atlantic starting Thursday afternoon. Storms are expected to form over Middle Tennessee and progress eastward into northern Alabama, North Georgia, and western North Carolina – areas still recovering from Hurricane Helene. A stalled cold front will guide these storms over the weekend, bringing widespread rainfall of 3-5 inches from Florida to the Carolinas, with some areas receiving even greater accumulations.

While the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season is on June 1, the FOX Forecast Center will be monitoring the Caribbean Sea for any preseason activity in late May. A mysterious black ring in the sky above a Kansas town captivated residents and passersby, creating an unusual sight that puzzled witnesses.

For more intriguing stories like a Florida man encountering a bison at Yellowstone, a person swept away in a Las Vegas storm, and a tragic alligator attack in Central Florida, stay tuned.
