Named after a female figure from Norse mythology, Valkyrie, which is being tested at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, will lighten the workload of astronauts in space and take on dangerous missions, Reuters reports.

NASA Dexterous Robotics Team Leader Shaun Azimi said humanoid robots in space could tackle risky tasks like cleaning solar panels or inspecting malfunctioning equipment outside the spacecraft, so astronauts can prioritize exploration and discovery.
"We're not trying to replace the human crew, we're just trying to take the boring, dirty and dangerous work off their plate so they can focus on higher-level activities," Azimi said.
