The Bachelorette has decided to take a break this summer, leaving fans wondering about the fate of the beloved reality dating series. Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned that ABC’s hit show will not be airing a new season in the upcoming months. Although assured of a return for another season in the future, it seems unlikely that viewers can expect it to grace their screens in 2025. The initial report of this unexpected development was made by Deadline.
Since its initial premiere back in 2003, The Bachelorette has captivated audiences with 21 seasons of romance and drama. However, taking longer breaks between seasons is not unfamiliar territory for the show. In 2006 and 2007, after three consecutive January premieres, The Bachelorette took a hiatus before returning with season 4 in 2008. This strategic move shifted the show to a May-July time slot, where it comfortably settled for the next 12 seasons until the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The scheduling of The Bachelorette has been somewhat erratic following the pandemic-induced delays. Season 16 made a comeback in October 2020, followed by two more seasons premiering in June and October 2021. The show found its rhythm with summer premieres for the past three seasons, with season 19 kicking off in July 2022, season 20 in June 2023, and the most recent season 21 reverting back to a July debut in 2024.
Meanwhile, The Bachelor franchise has been making moves of its own in the realm of scheduling. Bachelor in Paradise was notably absent in 2024, paving the way for the debut of a new series, The Golden Bachelorette, in September. Fans can expect the return of Bachelor in Paradise for its 10th season in the summer of 2025.
