Severe thunderstorms are expected to be scattered across the Midwest on Wednesday, potentially bringing wind damage, hail, and several tornadoes, particularly in Illinois and Indiana. While the severity of the weather is not anticipated to be as widespread as last week’s outbreak, it could still have significant impacts in certain areas. It is important to stay informed about any watches or warnings issued by the National Weather Service for your region.
Currently, there are warnings in place for severe thunderstorms, primarily for large hail, in northeast Iowa. The most intense severe weather is forecasted to develop in the mid-afternoon and continue into the early evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 3 out of 5 risk for severe storms in parts of northern and central Illinois, extending into far west-central Indiana. Areas like Peoria and Champaign, Illinois face the highest threat for tornadoes today, potentially including a strong tornado with significant damage. Storms may also bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes as far north as Chicago and as far east as Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.
The intensity of the storms will depend on the amount of instability present in the atmosphere, which is uncertain due to limited moisture. More isolated storms could also bring hail and gusty winds to parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. Stay updated on the severe weather forecast for Wednesday.
