The first meteor shower in over three months is about to send shooting stars streaking across the night sky, an event visible around the globe-weather permitting.
The peak of the Lyrid meteor shower will occur on the night of Monday, April 21, into the early morning of Tuesday, April 22. Although it is a fairly typical event, with up to 20 shooting stars per hour, it garners extra attention from stargazers as the first meteor shower since the Quadrantids, which peaked during the first weekend of 2025. The best time to view the Lyrids will be during the second half of the night, when it will have some competition in the sky in the form of the waning crescent moon.
