Loyalty Tests for US Intelligence Candidates

A report from the Washington Post revealed that individuals vying for key national security and law enforcement positions in the United States are undergoing assessments to gauge their loyalty. These assessments include inquiries about their stance on President Donald Trump’s unfounded assertions regarding the 2020 election outcome and its aftermath. According to sources who chose to remain anonymous, the questions posed to several current and former officials revolved around the election results and the events of January 6, 2021, when the Capitol was breached. Trump views these issues as indicators of loyalty, as per the newspaper’s sources.

The White House has yet to provide a response to requests for comment on the matter. Notably, two former officials who were under consideration for roles in intelligence were reportedly asked whether they believed the Capitol riot to be “an inside job” and whether they thought the 2020 election was “stolen.” Despite their qualifications, these individuals were not selected for the positions. However, it remains unclear whether their views on these specific matters were the sole reasons for their rejection.
