Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni announced yesterday that renting apartments to tourists will be banned until 2028 to solve the housing crisis, reduce rising housing costs and ensure the right to live in the city.

In line with the decision, Collboni stated that the licenses of 10,101 homes approved for rent in Barcelona will be gradually revoked and that by 2029 there will be no tourist apartments in the city.

Spain's Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda also congratulated Collboni, saying: "This is what it's all about, making every effort to guarantee access to decent and affordable housing. Congratulations, you have my full support in this task. Barcelona will eliminate tourist housing in the city within five years."
