"We will continue to enforce our immigration laws and deport anyone who does not have a legal basis to remain in the United States," Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement.

The weekend flight comes amid intense political debate over Chinese immigrants ahead of the US presidential election.

The ministry said it was working with China to "reduce irregular migration and crack down on human trafficking."

It did not respond to questions about how long the migrants had been in the US, but said it was working with China on more deportation flights in the future. 

US border officials arrested more than 37,000 Chinese nationals at the southern border in 2023. It was stated that this number was 10 times more than the previous year.
