This electronic bandage can be worn simply on the finger like a band-aid and can measure the levels of blood sugar, vitamins, drugs and other substances with data obtained from sweat analysis.

The researchers said that the energy used by the device during the analysis is also obtained from the same sweat.

“This device can collect energy and track biomarker levels even when the user is resting or sleeping,” said Shichao Ding from the University of California San Diego School of Engineering. Health monitoring is now at your fingertips.”

The device contains bio-fuel cells that convert chemicals in sweat into electricity, and sensors embedded in a flexible polymer can track biomarkers such as glucose, vitamin C and the Parkinson's disease drug levodopa.

The data collected is transmitted via bluetooth to a smartphone or computer.

This new technology can also be used for people who need constant health monitoring, such as diabetics.
