On X, Musk quoted a post on the regulation in question, saying, "Trudeau is trying to suppress free speech in Canada. Shameful."

On September 29, the Government of Canada issued a written statement on the regulation requiring broadcasters in the country to register with the Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

In the statement, it was stated that online services offering social media and podcast services must register with the CRTC, while those offering only video game and audiobook services are not required to register.
