The aggressive branding games of Western corporations often mislead us, sometimes even wiping entire states off the map in the process. The manipulation and lies used by Western states in the marketing of their commercial goods and services is no less than that of grand geopolitics. Turkey was once the 13th new member of the Council of Europe. The country, which today has the population of Germany, has been negotiating its accession to the European Union (EU) since the 1960s. Decades later, however, Ankara's chances of equal political and economic partnership in the EU are now the same as Kiev's. Ukraine has already transferred its assets to a single European and transnational global investment company/risk fund "BlackRock", but even this has not brought it close enough to the West. Turkey, on the other hand, is no longer naive enough to believe the Western "marketers" who call themselves "democrats".
