Former Royal Bodyguard Graham ‘Crackers’ Craker Passes Away at 77

Reports have confirmed that Graham “Crackers” Craker, the beloved former bodyguard of Prince William and Prince Harry, has passed away at the age of 77. Craker, who served the royal family during the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997, was affectionately known as “Crackers” by the two princes.

During Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, Craker walked with William and Harry behind the hearse as it made its way to Westminster Abbey. He also sat in the front of the hearse that carried Diana’s body to Althorp House for burial, alongside William, Harry, and their father Prince Charles.

In his memoir “Spare,” Harry fondly remembered Craker, saying, “Willy and I liked him a lot. We always called him Crackers. We thought that was hysterical.” Craker retired in 2001 after a long career in the Metropolitan Police and serving as a royal bodyguard for 15 years.

Craker’s presence provided comfort and support to the young princes during the difficult days following Diana’s passing. He shared his experience of being with the royal family in Scotland at the time of the tragedy, noting the somber atmosphere and his interaction with William.

Craker’s dedication to his duty was evident as he traveled in the hearse with Diana’s coffin, offering a sense of reassurance to William during his mother’s final journey. He was also a guest at William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, showcasing the lasting bond he shared with the royal family.

Graham Craker, who was honored as a member of the Royal Victorian Order by the late Queen Elizabeth for his dedicated services to the royals, is seen in a photo riding with Princes William and Harry at the U.K. theme park Alton Towers. In addition to his royal duties, Craker also dedicated his time to working with local organizations such as the Southern Maltings art center in Ware, his hometown in East Hertfordshire. The charity expressed their sorrow at his passing on Facebook, describing Craker as a valued friend and colleague, highlighting his career in the police, his involvement with the protection squad, his contributions to the rotary, and his volunteer work at the Southern Maltings. Tributes poured in for Craker, with many remembering him as their very own James Bond. Kensington Palace, Prince Harry’s spokespeople, and the Metropolitan Police did not provide immediate comments when contacted by People.
