False Claims of Listening Devices Discovered in the Oval Office

In February 2025, a post on Threads claimed that surveillance devices were found in the White House, specifically in the Oval Office. The post alleged that listening devices were uncovered and even stated that the President’s desk was removed for a security scan. Despite being reposted numerous times, there is no evidence to support these claims.

The post suggested that President Donald Trump temporarily replaced the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office with another desk following the alleged discovery of listening devices. However, Trump clarified in a post on Truth Social that the desk was removed for refinishing purposes, not due to security concerns.

Furthermore, there is no credible information or official statements from the White House confirming the existence of such devices. Attempts to reach out for comment were unsuccessful.

Another version of this claim, citing fabricated sources including an anonymous senior official and a non-existent White House spokesperson named Emily Harrow, circulated on social media. Claims made by this version were debunked, as the sources referenced could not be verified.

It is essential to remain vigilant against misinformation and verify sources before sharing such claims.

Based on a report by USA TODAY, no listening devices were discovered in the Oval Office. This information was confirmed after a fact check was conducted.
