Eovaldi Dominates with Two-Hit Shutout Against Tigers!

DETROIT (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven scoreless innings, Marcus Semien and Josh Jung each hit two-run home runs as the Texas Rangers defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on Sunday. Eovaldi (4-2) held the Tigers to just two hits and a walk while striking out seven in his fifth consecutive quality start. Jung’s homer marked a special moment as his brother, Jace, was playing third base for the Tigers. It was noted by the Elias Sports Bureau that Jung’s home run was the first by a player facing his brother’s team on Mother’s Day since at least 1969, with their mother, Mary, in attendance. Jonah Heim also contributed with a solo home run for Texas, who secured the series win by taking two of three games from Detroit. The Tigers, who had won their first five home series of the season, saw their streak come to an end. Detroit’s starter Reese Olson (4-3) gave up three runs and seven hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Spencer Torkelson prevented the Rangers from a shutout with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, who had a standout performance in the previous game, did not play due to hamstring tightness. Semien’s two-run shot in the second inning, following Adolis García’s leadoff double, gave Texas an early 2-0 lead and ended Olson’s streak of not allowing a home run in 38 2/3 innings. Eovaldi continued his success at Comerica Park, boasting a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.13 ERA in his career starts at the Tigers’ ballpark. Next up, Rangers’ right-hander Tyler Mahle (3-1, 1.48 ERA) will start the series opener against Colorado on Monday, while Tigers rookie right-hander Jackson Jobe (2-0, 4.88 ERA) will start the series opener against Boston on the same day. ___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB
