Elizabeth Chambers is drawing from personal experiences as she leads a new docuseries called Toxic. In the initial trailer for the six-part series on Investigation Discovery, Chambers is seen conducting an interview with a woman who survived a traumatic attack from a partner. Chambers also touches on her own encounters with her ex-husband, Armie Hammer.
“No one is immune when it comes to toxic relationships,” Chambers remarks, as a photo of her and Hammer in happier times is shown in a car’s rearview mirror. Reflecting on her own heartbreak, Chambers mentions her background as an investigative journalist before the trailer transitions to her conversations with experts and individuals sharing their stories of trauma.
Chambers and Hammer tied the knot in 2010 and announced their separation in July 2020. Shortly after, Chambers filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in June 2023. Following their split, Hammer faced allegations of abuse from multiple women, which he denied.
Chambers later appeared on the reality show Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise in spring 2023, where she described her highly publicized divorce from Hammer as “absolute hell.” The BIRD Bakery founder has expressed her support for Hammer’s recovery, emphasizing her desire for his sobriety, health, and happiness.
In her recent move back to Los Angeles from Grand Cayman, Chambers shared Christmas photos with her children Harper, 10, and Ford, 8, including a rare picture of Hammer spending time with the kids. She praised Hammer for being present and emphasized the importance of their children having two supportive parents.
In the Toxic trailer, Chambers delves into the dynamics of toxic relationships, exploring themes like gaslighting, love-bombing, isolation, and deceit. She expresses her goal to uncover the truth and shed light on accountability within toxic relationships.
Toxic premieres on Monday, May 5 at 10 p.m. ET on ID, with streaming options available on Max.
