INDIANAPOLIS – Cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who battled a shoulder injury last season at Kentucky, made a triumphant return on Friday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. Showing no signs of past setbacks, Hairston stunned observers by running the first sub-4.3-second 40-yard dash of the week with an impressive time of 4.28 seconds. His lightning speed was not the only highlight of the day, as he also showcased exceptional athleticism by recording the second-highest vertical jump among cornerbacks at 39 1/2 inches and tying for third place in the broad jump with a distance of 10 feet, 9 inches.
Meanwhile, Tulane’s Caleb Ransaw turned heads with a strong performance, finishing third in the 40-yard dash at 4.33 seconds and claiming the top spot in the vertical jump with a remarkable 40 inches, matching Hairston’s broad jump mark. Iowa State’s Darien Porter also made an impact, securing the second-fastest time among cornerbacks in the 40-yard dash at 4.3 seconds.
Among safeties, Kansas State’s Marquis Sigle and South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori emerged as standouts on Friday. Sigle blazed through the 40-yard dash with the fastest time of 4.37 seconds, closely followed by Emmanwori at 4.38 seconds. Both players displayed exceptional explosiveness, with Emmanwori leading the pack in the vertical jump at 43 inches and Sigle excelling in the broad jump with a distance of 10 feet, 10 inches. Emmanwori also showcased his athleticism by posting the best vertical jump among safeties.
On the offensive side, tight ends took center stage at Lucas Oil Stadium, with Oregon’s Terrance Ferguson and South Carolina’s Joshua Simon delivering noteworthy performances in the 40-yard dash. Ferguson clocked in at 4.63 seconds, while Simon closely trailed at 4.65 seconds. Alabama’s CJ Dippre was the lone tight end to break the 4.7-second mark with a time of 4.69 seconds. In the vertical jump category, Ferguson and Simon reigned supreme with the top two spots, showcasing their explosiveness and agility.
Nebraska’s Thomas Fidone II led the tight end group in the broad jump with an impressive distance of 10 feet, 6 inches.
