A talented 13-year-old artist from Bristol is captivating audiences with his remarkable illustrations, all while using his creative talents to navigate the challenges of autism and ADHD. Theo, a young boy whose passion for drawing knows no bounds, recently had the opportunity of a lifetime when he was chosen to illustrate the cover of a new children’s book.

The chance encounter that led to this exciting collaboration occurred when Theo crossed paths with acclaimed children’s author B. Ware, the pen name of writer Jo Stacey. According to Theo’s mother, Katharine, drawing has always been a sanctuary for her son, providing him with a means to express himself and find solace from a young age. “He had ‘always loved’ drawing and had used it as a way to ‘soothe himself’ from about the age of five,” she shared.

Recalling their initial meeting, Theo explained how he first caught Stacey’s attention with a heartfelt “welcome to my school” card adorned with his captivating illustrations. This chance encounter blossomed into a creative partnership, with Theo diligently sketching out Stacey’s ideas during their regular Friday meetings.

Katharine shed light on Theo’s challenging early years and how drawing emerged as a lifeline during difficult times. “It was a way for him to communicate. He would draw all the time and always loved cartoons like Beano and Asterix,” she shared, underscoring the role of art in Theo’s journey of self-discovery and expression.

Witnessing her son’s artistic evolution and collaboration with Stacey has been nothing short of extraordinary for Katharine. “Seeing the whole process has been wonderful – we’re so proud of him,” she beamed, reflecting on Theo’s growth as an artist and his newfound confidence in pursuing his passion.
