The New York Yankees placed right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman on the 15-day injured list due to left knee inflammation before their home game against the San Francisco Giants. Stroman, 33, left the game early after a disappointing performance, resulting in further tests and X-rays. With a 0-1 record and an 11.57 ERA in three starts this season, Stroman has struggled after signing a two-year, $37 million contract with the Yankees in 2024.
Following a strong first half of the season, Stroman’s performance declined, leading to a bullpen role in September and missing the postseason as the Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Despite his recent struggles, Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes Stroman still has the potential to be an effective starter in the major leagues with some adjustments.
Stroman’s injury adds to the Yankees’ pitching challenges, joining Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt on the injured list. Cole is out for the season following Tommy John surgery, while Gil and Schmidt are dealing with injuries. To fill Stroman’s roster spot, the Yankees called up right-hander Allan Winans from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Winans, 29, previously played for the Atlanta Braves and has shown potential with solid performances in the minor leagues this season.
