Yankees Shock Fans Carrasco Designated for Assignment After Only 8 Appearances!

Carlos Carrasco’s stint with the New York Yankees ended abruptly after just 32 innings, as the team decided to designate him for assignment due to his struggles this season. The Yankees made roster moves by recalling RHP Yerry de los Santos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre to replace Carrasco.

Carrasco, who had played for the Cleveland Guardians in 2024, signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees in February to provide depth to the team. However, injuries to key pitchers pushed him into the rotation sooner than expected. Despite his best efforts, Carrasco struggled to find success, posting a 5.91 ERA in eight appearances, including six starts, before being released.

Once a standout pitcher from 2014 to 2018 with the Guardians, Carrasco had a 3.27 ERA over 856 innings during that period. Despite his previous success, Carrasco has faced challenges in recent years, including being diagnosed with leukemia in 2019. After a brief return to form in 2020, he struggled with injuries during his time with the New York Mets before rejoining the Guardians in 2024 and subsequently signing with the Yankees.

At 38 years old and with a history of recent struggles, Carrasco’s future in the majors is uncertain after being designated for assignment. The Yankees will need to fill his spot in the rotation, possibly turning to Yerry de los Santos or using reliever Ryan Yarbrough as a spot starter. With injuries affecting key pitchers like Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil, the team faces challenges in maintaining a stable rotation moving forward.

He needs to take several turns rotating before he is prepared to proceed.
