A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Rhian Butlin, who underwent an unnecessary hysterectomy after being mistakenly diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In September 2024, Rhian sought medical help for severe abdominal pain, initially dismissed as PCOS. Two months later, she was hospitalized with a large ovarian tumor requiring surgery. Following a hysterectomy, removal of her appendix and bowel lining, and a difficult recovery, Rhian’s biopsy results surprisingly showed no cancer present. Doctors later found a rare form of cancer in her appendix, which had already spread to her pelvis and lymph nodes, making it stage 4 and incurable. Rhian expressed emotional exhaustion and fear over the misdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures she endured.
After initially complaining of stomach pain, Butlin began her first three-month round of intensive chemotherapy on April 8. Butlin’s older sister voiced her frustration with the medical team’s handling of her sister’s care. “It has not been a positive experience,” she shared with the publication. “If they had identified the issue sooner, we wouldn’t be dealing with the current situation. It seems like we have been severely disappointed.” Please refer to the original article on People for more information.
