Warm Weather Ahead for the US!

Temperatures are expected to reach near-record levels in more than a dozen states this week as a surge of mild Pacific air dominates the early days of February, according to AccuWeather experts. This warm air will be a stark contrast to the exceptionally cold and snowy January that saw temperatures 3-6 degrees below historical averages from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes. January also brought a record-breaking snowstorm along the Interstate-10 corridor from Texas to Florida.

As the jet stream shifts to a west-to-east orientation across the country, the coldest air will be confined to the far north, allowing for temperatures to skyrocket across the central US at the start of the new workweek. Despite Punxsutawney Phil predicting an extended winter, warmer weather is on the horizon.

Temperatures are forecasted to rise 15-20 degrees Fahrenheit above historical averages for early February in cities like Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Detroit, and Nashville. The warmth will extend eastward on Monday, reaching cities such as Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte.

High temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s will be common across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, with some areas possibly challenging daily records. The Midwest and South will experience near-record warmth, making it feel more like March or early April. Daily record highs may be challenged in cities like Dallas, Atlanta, and Raleigh.

The warm air will clash with cooler temperatures, setting the stage for several storms to move across the eastern US from Feb. 5 to 11. These storms could bring wintry precipitation and snow to parts of the Ohio Valley, northern mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. The first storm is expected to bring a mix of ice and rain, followed by a second storm by the second weekend of February.

Severe thunderstorms are likely across the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys, with the potential for severe weather breaking out ahead of cold fronts.
