If you’re like most individuals, you likely began the new year with a refrigerator full of vegetables to kickstart 2025 on a healthy note. However, you may need to quickly return to your fridge as the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has just issued a significant recall for a popular bagged vegetable.
Braga Fresh has voluntarily recalled its washed and ready-to-eat 12 oz. Marketside Broccoli Florets due to a potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes, as per the FDA announcement. These broccoli florets, sold at Walmart, bear a “best if used by” date of Dec. 10, 2024. The bags are identifiable by the UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back and a Lot Code of BFFG327A6 on the front.
The FDA has specifically advised consumers to inspect their freezers for the affected product. “This product is past its best if used by date and is no longer in stores, but consumers may have frozen the item for later use. Consumers who have this product in their freezers should not consume and discard the product,” stated the announcement.
Despite the recall, no illnesses related to the recalled broccoli florets have been reported thus far. In case of health concerns, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlights symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection, including fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, confusion, and stiff neck. For individuals affected by intestinal listeria illness, symptoms to monitor may include diarrhea and vomiting.
