Spafford was apprehended outside his farm on December 17th, following a criminal complaint alleging his possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle, as per Court Watch. Upon searching the 20-acre property, investigators reportedly discovered the bulk of the 150 explosive devices in a detached garage, as outlined in court documents filed by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Additionally, more pipe bombs were allegedly uncovered in Spafford’s bedroom, stored in a backpack adorned with a patch resembling a hand grenade inscribed with the phrase “#NoLivesMatter,” claim prosecutors.
Prosecutors further maintained that Spafford was in possession of a jar containing hexamethylene triperoxide diamine, known as HMTD, a highly unstable compound linked to prominent terrorist incidents such as the 2005 London public transport bombing. The prosecutors opined that the quantity of materials found within the accused individual’s residence suggested a scheme necessitating assistance. A notebook containing formulas for creating explosives was also reportedly discovered on the premises, according to court documents.
In a troubling revelation, it was disclosed that Spafford utilized a picture of President Biden in his shooting range for target practice and purportedly expressed a desire to “revive political assassination” to a police informant, as detailed by Court Watch. The informant, identified as a neighbor who covertly documented discussions with Spafford, was cited by The New York Times.
During a bond hearing, prosecutors contended that the array of equipment unearthed at the residence indicated that the accused was devising a plan beyond his individual capacity. The Smithfield Times reported that bond was established at $25,000 on the stipulation that Spafford would remain under electronic surveillance and confined to his mother’s dwelling.
