Vintage Charm and Candlelight Galore at Lone Fox’s House Rules!

Drew Michael Scott has become a viral sensation with his innovative and stylish DIY home decor tutorials. His keen eye for design has led him to create a unique and sophisticated aesthetic that he showcases in various projects. From launching his online shop, Lone Fox, to renovating his own home and sharing the process on YouTube, Scott has immersed himself in the world of design. We had the opportunity to chat with him about the principles that shape his inviting home, where both he and his guests find solace.
Scott, who recently transitioned from apartment living to homeownership, has imbued his new Los Angeles abode with his signature warmth and personal touch. Cozy textures, soft candlelight, and the aroma of pumpkin pie combine to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. When asked about what makes his house feel like a home, Scott pointed to his extensive collection of vintage treasures and furniture pieces that he has lovingly curated over time.
To ensure guests are welcomed back, Scott humorously suggests showing an equal amount of affection for his English Bulldog, Winston. His hosting must-dos include lighting a candle, taking out the trash, and ensuring the guest room is well-equipped. Scott’s organizational strategies involve meticulous calendar planning and the use of labels to keep belongings in order, though he admits it can sometimes feel like organized chaos.
Setting the mood in his home is essential for Scott, who favors fragrant candles to create a cozy ambiance, particularly during the colder months. Unwinding after a long day often involves a relaxing bath and indulging in some online content. Scott’s versatile design style is influenced by a mix of masculine and feminine elements, tailored to suit his Spanish-style home. When it comes to color choices, he leans towards neutrals in his current design preferences.

Question: Do you still enjoy decorating your personal spaces, considering it’s part of your job? How do you unwind?

Response: Absolutely! I find great joy in designing my personal spaces because it allows me the freedom to express myself however I please. The ability to pivot creatively whenever I feel the need is invigorating. Fortunately, I have yet to experience creative burnout as inspiration continues to flow effortlessly.

In times when I require a breather from designing, I divert my attention to my online store, where I curate new vintage pieces and furniture. This endeavor is not just a pastime but a genuine passion that keeps me engaged and enthusiastic.

Question: Whose design style do you admire the most?

Response: I hold a deep appreciation for the work of Pierce and Ward, as well as Tiffany Howell from Night Palm. Their design prowess and unique aesthetic resonate with me on a profound level.

Question: Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?

Response: My wellspring of inspiration predominantly stems from perusing old design books. A quaint establishment in downtown L.A. houses a treasure trove of vintage design literature. For instance, I draw inspiration for my home from a particular book showcasing 1920s Spanish design, exploring distinct silhouettes and styles from that era. The exclusivity of these visuals, absent online, offers a refreshing departure from the ubiquitous trends often found on social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest.

Question: Coffee or tea?

Response: Coffee! I indulge in 2-3 iced coffees embellished with sweet cream cold foam daily.

Response: Sweet. A midnight sugary indulgence never fails to delight my taste buds. I am known to peruse the weekly flavor offerings at Crumbl for a decadent treat.

Question: Eating at home or dining out?

Response: While I am not particularly adept in the culinary arts, my dining habits lean heavily towards eating at home, facilitated greatly by the convenience of services like Uber Eats.
