Veteran Linebacker Lavonte David Re-Signs with Buccaneers for 14th Season

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have confirmed the unexpected return of veteran linebacker Lavonte David for his 14th season with the team. The announcement was made on Friday, revealing that David has reached an agreement on a one-year contract. A reliable source disclosed to The Associated Press that the deal is valued at $10 million, with $9 million guaranteed.

David, who earned All-Pro honors in 2013, has been a key leader on Tampa Bay’s defense for over a decade. With 198 games played, he ranks third in franchise history and boasts an average of 123 tackles per season. Throughout his career, David has accumulated 39 sacks, 13 interceptions, 31 forced fumbles, and 19 fumble recoveries.

General manager Jason Licht praised David, stating, “Lavonte is not only one of the greatest Buccaneers in history, but is the embodiment of consistency, excellence, and leadership. For over a decade, he has been the heart of our defense, setting the standard with his relentless work ethic and passion for the game. His impact on and off the field is immeasurable, and we are thrilled to have him back for another season.”

Despite being 35 years old, David showcased his skills in the 2024 season by recording 122 tackles, including nine for loss, along with six quarterback hits, six passes defensed, 5 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
