Monica Cameroni De Adams, 65, tragically lost her life after a drunk driver crashed into her Honda Odyssey minivan in San Diego in 2023. Unbeknownst to the tow truck driver who arrived to pick up the van, Cameroni De Adams, who was experiencing homelessness, was inside the vehicle where she had been living. A month later, her body was discovered in the impound lot where the van had been towed. Her family has since filed a $50 million lawsuit against the city, alleging that authorities failed to notice she was inside the van, effectively sealing her fate. The family’s attorney, John Carpenter, stated that her death was a direct result of being left alone in the van after the crash and subsequently taken to the impound lot, where she was left unattended to perish.
The drunk driver responsible for the collision, Jordan Lopez, 24, was sentenced to probation with a suspended six-year prison term after pleading guilty to DUI causing injury. De Adams was found in the minivan amidst the aftermath of the crash, having sustained severe injuries that ultimately led to her tragic demise. The lawsuit indicates that she likely succumbed to her injuries in the tow yard, as no steps were taken by officials to check for any occupants in the vehicle before it was towed away.
De Adams’ daughter reported her missing when she failed to respond to birthday messages, shedding light on the negligence that resulted in the loss of her life. The San Diego authorities have yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
