“The individual was heading towards his car to retrieve something and was on his way back to the pool area to reunite with his family,” stated McLenna. “However, he did not reunite with his family at the pool.”
After the father failed to return, his family became alarmed, and on December 30, they reported him missing. McLenna took to social media, urging anyone who may have seen him to reach out to investigators.
Bacon’s body was discovered by dive teams from the Cass River near Heritage Park around 2 p.m. Saturday, as confirmed by the Frankenmuth Police Department. “The initial cause of death seems to be drowning, although the final determination will be made by the Saginaw County Medical Examiner’s Office,” the police declared. “The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bacon’s passing is still ongoing.”
Bacon arrived at the hotel at 6:40 p.m. and was captured on security cameras carrying his belongings to his room. Despite informing his family that he was going to his car, surveillance footage from the resort revealed that the father of two never reached the vehicle. “[Investigators] have footage of him heading to the fun center after departing the hotel room, but he never returned to his car,” McLenna informed WNEM three days before his body was found.
His ex-wife pointed out that some exits lacked cameras and that there was no footage showing him leaving the building. McLenna mentioned that Bacon’s silver sedan remained parked in the resort parking lot on Wednesday, with nothing suspicious found inside by the police during their inquiry. The authorities also confirmed that his keys, wallet, and phone were with him when he vanished, however, his phone had been turned off since he was last seen.
Following the news of her ex-husband’s death, McLenna made a Facebook post on Sunday mourning Bacon. “I am at a loss for words to describe our emotions. We are deeply saddened. I just want to express my gratitude to everyone who aided in the search for Robert,” she expressed. “Thank you to all who prayed for us and continue to keep us in their thoughts.”
The Bavarian Inn resort in Frankenmuth is situated approximately 90 miles northwest of Detroit.
