USPS Temporarily Suspends Acceptance of Packages from China and Hong Kong

The United States Postal Service made an announcement on Tuesday night, revealing that it has decided to temporarily halt the acceptance of packages originating from China and Hong Kong until further notice. This suspension is effective immediately, as confirmed by the USPS. However, it is important to note that letters and flats are not included in this suspension, according to the postal service’s statement.

No specific reason was provided by the postal service for this sudden suspension, nor was there any indication of the expected duration of this measure. Earlier on the same day, Beijing declared its intention to retaliate against the new 10% tariff imposed by President Trump on Chinese goods. China’s response will involve implementing its own tariffs, starting from the upcoming Monday. Specifically, China plans to impose a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas products, and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-engine cars imported from the U.S.

President Trump has expressed his intention to engage in discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the near future regarding these escalating trade tensions. The situation continues to evolve, and more updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.

In other news, it was revealed that USAID is set to merge into the State Department, accompanied by significant budget cuts. Furthermore, details regarding the Chinese retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, scheduled to come into effect next week, are expected to be disclosed soon. Additionally, the Senate has confirmed Pam Bondi for the position of attorney general, while RFK Jr.’s nomination is also progressing.
