State Department cables revealed that U.S. embassies and officials have been advocating for regulatory clearances for satellite companies, specifically mentioning Starlink. The documents do not suggest that the Trump administration sought favors for Starlink in exchange for tariff reductions, but they do show that Secretary of State Marco Rubio directed officials to support Musk’s satellite venture.
