Unveiling the Future A Glimpse into Next Year!

For the remainder of 2024, a shift in the Jet Stream pattern has resulted in the arctic cold air being pushed back up into Canada. This change is expected to bring well above-normal temperatures across the region through the upcoming weekend and into early next week. Typically, Erie experiences a normal high in the mid to upper 30s toward the end of December, but during this period, temperatures are forecasted to reach the 40s and even the 50s.

As we head into the weekend, showers are projected to move into the area, starting with scattered showers on Saturday and transitioning to more widespread rain on Sunday. The showers are likely to clear out by Monday morning, only to return later on Tuesday, just in time for New Year’s Eve.

Following this brief respite, the arctic air is predicted to make a comeback as we ring in the New Year. This shift in weather patterns may lead to any lingering rain transitioning into snow, accompanied by a drop in temperatures on Wednesday. Subsequently, expect a significant plunge in temperatures by Thursday, as the region braces for sharply colder air through the first weekend of 2025. Additionally, residents may experience lake-effect snow showers during this time.
