The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) in Richmond, Virginia, is set to unveil a new exhibit commemorating America’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. Titled “Give Me Liberty,” the exhibit will showcase rare artifacts dating back to the nation’s founding, inspired by Patrick Henry’s iconic “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech. These artifacts will be on display at the museum, reflecting on the American and Virginian story, according to VMHC president and CEO Jamie Bosket. The exhibit aims to explore the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence and the enduring impact of the ideas from that era on America’s journey towards a more perfect union. Featuring items such as a silver hilted smallsword, tools, stamps, political objects, and letters penned by George Washington, “Give Me Liberty” will also highlight propaganda of the time, including pamphlets and speeches that fueled the revolution. The exhibit is scheduled to run from March 22 to January 4, 2026, offering visitors a glimpse into the historical context and significance of America’s 250th anniversary.
