Brooks Lennon marked his 200th career start with an assist that set up Emmanuel Latte Lath’s goal in the 11th minute. Miguel Almirón also contributed an assist, ending a 195-minute scoring drought.
Messi equalized the score in the 20th minute, making it his first goal of the season. Rocco RÃos Novo, who made his first start for Inter Miami, made three saves to secure the win.
Brad Guzan put in a strong performance for Atlanta United, saving six shots, including three by Messi.
Atlanta United will face FC Cincinnati on the road next, while Inter Miami will host the Philadelphia Union on March 29.
